E-News April 2014

wHAT'S NEWS IN THE TEAM B & B ?

Nat-Mati-Hyere-290pixSince our last e-news from Christmas, a lot of water has flowed under our hulls! ...
We have again started our racing season, and have now just returned from the ISAF World Cup in Hyeres, France. With varying conditions, we showed our potential and finished 8th of 78 Nacra boats and also 6th nation from 25 nations.
Our goal in 2014 is totally focused upon the ISAF World Championships in September being held in Santander. At this event 50% of the country quota places for the Rio 2016 Games will be assigned!
We continue to attack our project with complete focus and we are pleased to count on your support for the continuation of our Olympic challenge. A big thank you in advance, all the best for this season on and off the water, and enjoy reading our adventures of these recent months!

SECOND-PART OF OUR WINTER TRAINING IN MOROCCO

January-February: After our training in Santander ESP between October and December, we migrated south to Agadir, Morocco where the conditions were a bit warmer! The French Nacra team invited us to join them for a high-level training camp; so along with 2 Dutch teams and our Spanish training partners Iker Martinez and Tara Pachecho (Olympic Gold medalist in 2004, and 470 World Champion respectively) we were able to spend two blocks of 2 weeks for morning physical preparations, and afternoons sailing training. It was an intense period but with remarkable progress!
We have some great memories from our training with beautiful images of flying Nacra catamarans in strong winds and waves of 4 meters!

WORLD CUP PALMA DE MALLORCA

March: This marked the first big event of the 2014 season, and while we entered from an intensive training period, the lack of racing in big fleets between September and March caught us out feeling slightly underprepared. However despite some troubles to get out of the starting blocks well, we were able to idendtify some techincal areas to further develop, and we were still rewarded with a 12th out of 74 entries.
Some pictures of us during a spectacular capsize in 28 knts after we were hampered by a Press Boat have also done many laps around the world...

montage-chavirage-cosmic-paWhile certainly helping our media following, this World Cup also encouraged a change in a number of key factors in our preparation which allowed us to come back stronger at the next World Cup leg in Hyeres.

WORLDCUP  HYERES

April: After some days of training we started the race week well in east winds of between 9 and 15 knts. The conditions were perfect for Nacra 17 sailing and our team was able to show some great consistency managing to record all of our qualificaiton races inside the top 10 including a race win (3, 2, 10, 1, 7, 2)! This qualification round placed us in good stead for the finals stage round with an intermedary ranking of 3rd. However during the finals some key mistakes cost us the opportunity of an overall podium finish with an incident with another boat while in the top5, and an over the start early penalty (BFD) where we managed to finish 2nd. (21, 5 , 4, 8, BFD, 21, 7, 7).

Overall we placed 8th which not only re-confirms our status in the Level-A national team of the Swiss Sailing Federation until 2015 ... but more importantly validates our place in the top 10 worldwide with podiums in the near future!
