"BACK ON TRACK" !

Dear friends and partners.
After completing in December 2014 on a bang with 2 bronze medals won on the future Olympic water in Rio (South American championships and Brazil Cup), our team had a somewhat disrupted start into the year 2015 with Nathalie ligament knee injury in Miami. After this forced break, the B&B team met again on the water in Palma de Majorca, more motivated than ever to attack the race this March 30th ... meaning we are "BACK ON TRACK" for this selective year.
Thank you all for your support during this period. Enjoy the reading.
Your Team B & B, Nathalie and Matìas

«Game Over» at the Miami World Cup

bequille-miami-308pixA large fleet of Nacra 17 met in Miami for the World Cup from 26 to 31 January 2015. After an intense week of training with our foreign partners, we often finished the training races in front places: the tuning of the boat is good, we are confident ... and, we did it, in rough wind conditions we win the first race of this WorldCup. Things went wrong during the 2nd race: placed at 3rd rank, a powerful wind gust over 30 knots hit us downwind. Impossible to avoid a violent capsize: Nathalie is thrown forward, his foot still stuck in the back footstrap. A large crack is heard ... meaning "GAME OVER". The day ends at Miami University Hospital. Diagnosis: torn medial collateral ligament, eight weeks of competition stop, and daily physiotherapy, rehabilitation and fitness!

Rehabilitation for Nat and Hours of Sailing for Matì
Between February and March, Nat spent days & nights working on her recovery and maintaining physical endurance and strength needed on the boat. Daily physiotherapist treatments and hours of physical exercises were performed to quickly recover the quadriceps strength and the full extension /flexion of the injured leg. Mati has been busy with hours of steering and boat handling, especially on the Rio water for two weeks in Rio. For this occasion, Nico, a young Argentinian from the 49er was crewing, bringing new ideas. Back in Barcelona Mati kept his steering skills on a flying A-Cat. The goal was to stay active during these two months and cultivate the helm feeling: goal fulfilled!

Following these 8 weeks of rehabilitation, Nathalie received the green light from his orthopaedic doctor to return the boat, but keeping his Robocop splint. After a week of training in Palma together with our coach Sebbe Godefroid, everything goes well ... the speed is still there and we have not lost our technique: what a pleasure to be together on our Nacra ! From this Monday March 30th we will participate to the Eurolympe in Palma. Objective: To test our return in the Olympic professional circuit, and identify our points to work on in order to be on the top at the next World Cup in Hyeres, France (April 22nd to 26th).

Big Targets for 2015
Thanks to our 6th place at the 2014 World Championships, we have secured Switzerland with THE nation quota place. Now, one year away of the Olympics 2016, our 2015 target is to fulfil our personal athlete qualification. According to the criteria of Swiss Olympic a place in the top 5 at the Worlds in Denmark in July or a top 8 at the Olympic Test Event in Rio in August will definitely qualify our team for the Olympics 2016. We decided to focus on the Olympic water of Rio, with a top 8 target in August.
